I too am having trouble. It is so hard. If it makes you feel any better, your comment on this year-old blog post made me go back and read said blog post – and see my own words, see that nothing’s changed inside me, although things are worse outside me. Surely there is something to be said for steady in this world. Sending peaceful vibes. Thank you again.

I wrote a long response to it. I was motivated by the words that poured from your heart, because I feel that outpouring too from all over. More often, I feel helpless to make the world better. Friends tell me that they too want too quit their jobs to rally for the environment, for social justice, for inclusion and for peace. Really being here is a balance of pain and healing. Thank you for all your writing.

She’s developed this habit I’ve only recently noticed. When she gets consumed by a novel she purposely stops about a quarter of the way to the end.

Why’d you stop? I ask.
I don’t want it to end. She says.

She’ll mull over the story, anticipate the possible conclusions and a day or two later come to the resolution that it’s time and she’ll read the ending. And she almost always says: still don’t want it to end.

That’s the book I’d like to write.

Thank you. Feel such a calm after reading it. Lately I alternate between crazy swings of jealousy, frustration, irritation and swooning love as I survey all the books I wish I’d written, all the lovely children’s book illustrators I wish were illustrating my stories…Twitter can make me feel connected to other writers and the urgency and energy of all of us writing but can also absolutely make me see walls, doors and windows. I forget the fun of writing. The joy the page brings me. The contentment I feel away from all that noise. Thanks for this kind guidance.
